Where do you want to be in a year?

How are you going to get there?

I was listening to a podcast by Dan Miller. He’s the guy who runs 48days.com and the 48 days podcast. It’s a podcast on career paths and decision making.

One question he posed in this lovely episode was:

“Where do you want to be in a year AND how do you plan on getting there?”

Not just where do you want to be, but the how – the part gets you thinking.

We’re all dreamers. You wouldn’t have gotten this far if you couldn’t look a bit into the future and use your imagination. Dreams and vision are what got you to this point. Seeing yourself in that long white coat. You have to think it before you can do it. Sounds simple, but it isn’t.

You’ve come this far, don’t stop thinking now. Don’t just wind up SOMEWHERE working as a PA. That’s simply not good enough after all your hard work. Any job at any salary is not the goal.

Decide what type of PA you want to be and why. Think about WHERE you’d like to work.

Have a plan for how you’re going to get there. Most people just do what everyone else is doing when it comes to the job hunt. Most people just do what everyone else is doing when it comes to the interview and accepting a job. Most people “take what they can get.” That is not my vision for you. After all the work you put in, please don’t let that be your vision.

So, how are you going to get there. I’d like to help you with that part. I’m also going to help you with painting your vision a little more clearly first. That’s important, sure, but I will also show you how to get there and help you do it.

I rolled up just about everything I know on landing your dream job into one package and unimaginatively called it…
