I’ve got three apps for you.
Two are Mac only, but the third one is for everyone!
First two apps are for making painful situations a little easier. Let me explain:
People like to tell me things I need to remember at awkward times. I’ve got my arms wrapped around a patient in the process of moving them from OR table to the stretcher and the surgeon calls out as he’s leaving the room,
“Put this patient on aspirin instead of lovenox. She doesn’t like hydrocone, so why don’t you try IV tylenol. I like Tigan instead of zofran too. Oh, and her medical doc’s name is XXXXXXX. Can you call them and see if they’ll see her? And I like meloxicam instead of ancef post op,” as the door closes behind them.
I’m like ……….. WTF.
Usually, I have index cards in may scrubs but not always. I need something quick to write with, or it’s all gone.
There are two apps on my iPhone that I love for this kind of stuff:
The first lives on the bottom right of my doc and it’s called Drafts. Here’s the link: http://agiletortoise.com/drafts/
Drafts is a text app that does what it does perfectly. You click on it and blank document opens, so you are ready to just get typing. It’s the speed that makes it so good. As soon as you click it, you’re ready. Then you can manipulate that text once you’re done. I love it for speed of capture.
The second app is the Apple Notes app. It synchs between platforms and works really well. I don’t keep tons of stuff in there, but simple notes and ideas I need often all go in there. It’s easy to use, and the cloud sync stuff is totally seamless.
Here’s how it looks using these apps in real life: I work with a surgeon I don’t know the well. As he’s telling me his order set, I capture that in drafts. Then, when I sit down to write the orders, I transfer it over to Notes and now have it in a safe place forever.
Oh, you want to know about the third app, right? That’s the most valuable one of all! That’s the PAER app. If you’d like to take it for a test drive, you can check it out here:

That link will get you into my “secret” podcast, and let you test out the PAER app. I think you’re gonna love it.
If you’re looking for even more out of the PAER app, you can get the entire back catalog of the PAER podcast within. Here’s the link www.physicianassistantexamreview.com/podcast
