Allow me to clarify my position on the NCCPA pretest. The only reason to take it is if you’ll be nervous that you didn’t take it.
The pretest isn’t going to make or break anything. If you “feel” like you need to take it, take it. But it really doesn’t matter. You have a finite amount of time – you’ll have to choose where to spend it. I used it for my first PANRE but not for my second.
My good friend Mary Beth emailed me after taking the NCCPA pretest as she was getting ready for her PANRE.

I just finished it and discovered that my answers are pretty much right in line with the rest of the people, except with understanding basic concepts. I was well under. lol
It was a complete waste of my time taking because I didn’t learn anything. I took screenshots of the questions I didn’t know and know I have to go look up all those questions.
Your book is so much better than the pretest. I also like listening to your podcast. I walk around daily with your voice in my head. LOL.

Mary Beth and I have been friends for just over 24 years. I met her when she was in PA school as an undergrad and I was studying biology. I didn’t start PA school until 10 years later, and she is one of the reasons I decided to go back to school. I’m sure it’s funny for her to have been listening to me as she was getting ready for her PANRE.
But, even after all those years, that doesn’t mean she would have said The Final Step was good if it weren’t true. It means all the more she would have told me that it sucked if that’s what she thought.
