TFS FAQ

Frequently, I get questions about my book The Final Step.

People ask if the questions are similar to those on the PANCE.

There isn’t a straightforward answer.

What I mean is the PANCE has several types of questions on it. They all look similar, but they aren’t.

I don’t want to go into the specifics of the different types of questions now (I’ll do that a different day), but I would call the questions in The Final Step something more like building blocks rather than full exam questions.

You’ll definitely get some questions on the PANCE that look exactly like those in the book (I’ve been told that directly from people who’ve taken it), but most of them will be longer. That being said, the longer questions tend to be a bunch of building blocks stacked together.

It’s a good move to practice with long questions, but you can get more done faster when working with shorter questions or building blocks.

Think of it like a boxer driving across town to a gym to spar with someone versus heading down to his basement to hit the heavy bag, the speed bag, or jump some rope. Sparring is valuable for sure, but it is too time-intensive to do every day.

Working on the pieces or skills individually is faster and often better. What’s best is a good balance of both.
