Yesterday’s email was about learning new things. We tend to hate learning new things because we look dumb doing it. My kids hated learning to snowboard this winter. That was partially because it hurts to fall down and partially because it hurts to have people see you fall down.
Well I just found out that yours truly is not exempt from being asked to learn new tricks. My hospital is reassigning me to the ICU. With the O.R. essentially closed, my main skill set isn’t particularly helpful during this battle.
This brings up one of my absolute favorite quotes:
“The basic difference between an ordinary man and a warrior is that a warrior takes everything as a challenge, while an ordinary man takes everything as a blessing or a curse.”
This is going to be a challenge for sure, but it isn’t good or bad. It just is.
There are both good and bad aspects of it but dwelling on the bad doesn’t help.
Here’s where you come in.
If you’ve got ICU resources that are easily digestible, I’m all ears. No esoteric stuff I have to dig through. I learn the same way I recommend you do. Not by reading Cecile’s, but by grabbing the easy stuff fast and then adding leaves onto those main branches as I go.
Hmm… speaking of focusing on the most important things, The Final Step will help you do that as you move through medicine and hopefully, eventually, take your PANCE.
Wish me luck!
