There are always problems. How you handle problems says a lot about you.
Do you run around like a nut? Do you assess the situation and deal with it?
I saw yesterday, while working with some techs and nurses at the hospital, that how a person handles problems is one of the factors that separates a great surgeon (or PA) from a good one.
Julia is an excellent example of how to be a problem solver and get out in front of an issue and get it solved. ( I took the liberty of bolding the key points)

Hi Brian,
I’m a second year PA student who just started her first rotation (it’s Women’s Health). I love listening to your PAER podcast during my commutes. Three months ago I also signed up for your newsletter. As class president, I recommend your podcast, The Final Step, and your newsletter to all my classmates!
Unfortunately, it appears that my newsletter has not arrived in the mail yet for this months edition. I really don’t want to miss out on the great material you always pack in them. Please advise!
Thank you,
Julia

Sometimes things get lost in the mail, more now than ever.
I got in touch with Julia, and because she was just so doggone nice to work with, I hooked her up with a copy the June 2018 issue “Rock Your Rotations.”
What Julia did was picture perfect. She saw there was a problem and moved forward to solve it. She didn’t attack or accuse. She brought up her concern and asked what she could do next.
This is a great illustration for your rotations, your classes, and really for all of your interactions with other humans.
The great surgeons I work with never accuse or blame the staff. They get annoyed for sure, but they take steps to solve the problem.
The good nurses I work with aren’t defensive when a problem comes up. They handle it professionally and more often than not with a smile. Things happen. What’s your approach?
The April issue of the Physician Assistant Exam Scholar’s Newsletter heads to the printer Wednesday. This one will help you deal with the overwhelming when you sit down to study. We cover a system for studying that you might just find helpful.
Join today before this one’s gone. I rarely make back issues available for sale. Usually, I use them only as rewards or gifts. Once this one heads to the printer. it’ll likely not be available ever again.
