On December 20th or so, I decided to take a PANCE practice exam for CME credits, and I came across some questions that had me clawing my eyes out.
Here’s one:
A 6-year-old is brought to the nurse’s office because of a nosebleed. This is the third event in the past 2 weeks. What is the most likely underlying cause?
a. Allergic rhinitis
b. Immune thrombocytopenia (ITP)
c. Local trauma
d. Acute leukemia
e. Von Willebrand disease
ARRGG!!! This is so painful. Is it C or E? Of course, the kid is probably picking his nose but, man, this is a medical exam. I know what it probably is, but what do THEY want me to say?
I picked E and got it wrong. The answer was that the kid was picking his nose a little too aggressively.
It is so frustrating. The takeaway is, do what you think is right.Don’t overthink. Don’t try to guess what they want you to answer. Choose the answer that you think is right and just move on.
Everyone knows that there are tough and annoying questions on the exam. What most people don’t realize is the there are also PLENTY of easy questions.Simple questions that you can get right with barely a thought.
The best way to make sure you get those right is by using The Final Step. I wrote over 1,200 review questions split up into topics to make it as easy as possible to practice the most important information you need for your exam.
