Physician Assistant Review Questions for Ectopic Pregnancy and Abortions

1.  List 4 things in a patients history that might make you consider ectopic pregnancy.

2.  What is the most common symptom of an ectopic pregnancy.

4.  A  sexually active 31 year old healthy female presents with a history of amenorrhea and increasing pelvic pain.  This morning she fainted  and is now very lightheaded.  She is also complaining of pain in her shoulder as well as increasing abdominal pain.  What is you likely course of treatment?

  1. Surgical intervention
  2. Methotrexate
  3. Observation
  4. Methylprednisolone

 

5.  A women presents to the emergency department with bloody vaginal discharge.  During your history you discover that she is 10 weeks pregnant.  She does not recall any other discharge.  On physical exam the external os is closed.  U/S shows a viable fetus with a heart rate of 175 beats/min.  What is the most likely outcome for this patient?

  1. She will carry her baby to term and deliver without complication
  2. She will have a miscarriage in the next several days
  3. She will continue to have bloody vaginal discharge throughout her pregnancy
  4. The fetus will be diagnosed with Down Syndrome

6.  What is the treatment for a missed abortion at 12 weeks?
