I like to ask people about their plans.
For example, when it comes to the people who buy The Final Step, I don’t want this book to be another book in your stack of books that you bought and never touch.
Like an otoscope. My kids love playing with mine. But holy smoke that thing was probably like $100, and I never saw a thing in anyone’s ear. No one’s. Not even once.
My wife, when my kids were little, was always asking me to look in the kids’ ears. I tried to explain that when I was practicing looking in kids ears, I never saw anything.
Attending “Doesn’t that look red and bulging? And you can see the white spot that’s your light reflecting back.”
Me, “Uh yeah, yeah of course I can see that. Red and bulging. Yeah, yeah.”
And years later there was no way I was going to see anything. SHE might as well look in their ears. She’s a math teacher with no medical training at all. That’s if you don’t count 13 seasons of Grey’s Anatomy. But she is a MUCH better clinician than I am.
I’m an optimist. I always think everyone’s fine.
Turns out in medicine my positive attitude isn’t always so helpful. Sometimes people actually are sick.
Back on track here.
I don’t want people buying the book on whim and then leaving it in a pile. It’s not big enough and doesn’t have a Medicine-y enough title to look cool on your bookshelf. It’s supposed to be used and used frequently.
Phil replied to my request with a perfect plan in mind.

I plan on using it everyday before and after I study for 10 mins concentrating on certain systems until I’m comfortable with it. Then before my exam, I’ll study the random sections a few weeks before the exam date.

I LOVE this. He bought the book and knows exactly what he’s going to do with it. He knows why he’s buying it and how it will be useful to him.
Any plan is a good one. Because once you start following that plan, you can make course corrections.
With no plan it’s hard to make good corrections. You keep repeating the same mistakes.
If you’d like to join Phil, November is a good month to do that. TFS is on sale along with a bunch of other materials over at www.physicianassistantexamreview.com/products. Instead of a Black Friday sale, I’m having a Thank You sale.
Thank you for supporting my efforts. Thank you for sharing Physician Assistant Exam Review with your friends and colleagues.
