Today’s podcast covers the most important topic I have covered so far, the success mindset. So many PA’s I speak with struggle with this. They are excellent care givers. Have excelled at so many things in their lives, but one multiple choice test has them quaking in their boots. They have no fingernails and are constantly searching for the magic bullet. They say things like…
“I can’t do it.”
“I’ve been practicing derm for 5 years. I don’t know anything else.”
“Why do we have to do this. It’s so stupid.”
“I’ve never been good at taking tests”
Have you used any of these phrases. Are you trying to come up with excuses for failing before you even walk into the testing room? Are you riddled with fear and anxiety?
“Anxiety is practicing failure in advance” – Seth Godin
Are we preparing to fail or preparing to pass?
So many things our brain does are designed to protect us from danger or perceived danger. The problem is that some things we do to protect ourselves from the perceived danger of things like embarrassment can actually be detrimental. In today’s podcast I discuss why most of the fears we experience related to this exam are perceived dangers and not real dangers. We also discuss some things you can do to remove those fears and build your confidence. I believe that one of the most important test taking skills you can learn is confidence. Not the false confidence of self affirmation but the real confidence of knowing deep down that you are prepared and fully capable of passing this exam.
There are several things we discuss in the podcast today to build this true confidence. One of those is creating a study plan and completing it. If you are having trouble with this I recommend a study course. I think most of them are probably good. I believe they all will provide you with a plan you can execute and help you build confidence. The course I’ve used is the UMDNJ/myCME course. Click here to see my review of it. Good Luck
