A good friend of mine was interviewing for a position at my hospital with the Chief of Surgery. She’d known him for 6 years. She’d been a top performer at the hospital that entire time.
When she went in for the interview, she changed out of her scrubs and into a professional attire.
Years ago, my wife was working for some time as a math teacher in a high school. An opening for a girls’ lacrosse coach came up, and she couldn’t resist the opportunity to be on the field again. When it was time for her interview what did she do? She put on a business suit to meet with the Athletic Director she’d known for years.
These are high performing people. These are people who DO NOT get turned down for a job. Dressing the part isn’t enough to get the gig, of course not, but without it you’re sunk before you open your mouth.
Maybe you think you shouldn’t be judged by your appearance. That’s like not believing in gravity. Gravity doesn’t care if you believe in it or not; in the same way, people are going to judge you by the way you look whether you like it or not.
Best to shave and wear a suit just in case.
It’s easy to outshine the competition because a good chunk of them don’t do this little thing. I know because I talk to surgeons who are hiring all the time and they love to tell me horror stories.
For the Dream Job Package video series I put together (only available until TOMORROW NIGHT), I go into a bunch of easy ways to stand out as an applicant.
It’s 10 training videos that are shipped straight to your phone for your easy, comfortable viewing or listening pleasure. What’s in the videos? So glad you asked…
* Video 1 – “First Things First” – Your approach matters.
* Video 2 – ” When to Start Looking” – One of the most frequent questions I get is, “When should I start looking for a job?” Your circumstances are an important factor here, but there is an optimal time.
* Video 3 – “The Bloody Truth” – The harsh reality of the graduation date to seeing your first patient. I explain all the ins and outs and what to expect.
* Video 4 – “The Downside of Freedom” – The good news is that you get to choose a specialty and a career path. The bad news is that you get to choose a specialty and a career path.
* Video 5 – “Don’t Think $$$” – I won’t tell you money isn’t important, but I will tell you something more important to look for in your first job. And no, it isn’t warm fuzzy feelings.
* Video 6 – “This is important” – Get your career started on the right foot. Don’t waste time those first few years.
* Video 7 – “The Only One Applying” – It’s easy to look better than everyone else if you’re the only one applying for the job.
* Video 8 – “Take Your Resume from an A to an A+” – Write your resume like this, and you’ll wind up on top of the pile rather than lost in the middle.
* Video 9 – “Get the Easy Stuff Right” – There is a ton of low hanging fruit on an interview that most people just don’t take advantage of. Not you. Not anymore.
* Video 10 – “Last Things Last” – You’ve done all the heavy lifting. You’ve done all the hard work. Don’t let them get away
And if that’s not enough for you there’s an Advanced Series for the over achievers out there.
* Advanced video 1 – “Compared to what?” – Let’s talk about your competition
* Advanced video 2 – “Create your dream job (It can be done!)” – Can’t find it? Make it. I’ll show you how.
* Advanced video 3 – “Why new grads are the best” – Selling your newness like it’s the best thing about you.
* Advanced video 4 – “Thinking differently” – This lesson holds the most important idea in the entire Dream Job Package.
* Advanced video – 5 “How do you go about your job search?” – Not like this I bet.
Anyway, like I said, it’s easy to stand out and get noticed when you know how. I’d love to show you.
Order the Dream Job Package and let’s get started.

P. S. This package is about 80% the material in the July and August 2018 and November 2020 issues of PAES. If you already own those issues you will have to decide if purchasing the Dream Job Package makes sense for you. If you don’t already have those three issues, then I suggest you scurry over to grab this deal promptly. I rarely offer back issues of the PAES newsletter, and there’s a good chance these three won’t be available even if I do.
