Every second counts. The entire game. The whole thing. Not just the beginning. Not just the end. The whole thing.
You’ve seen plenty of basketball games come down to the last shot. Plenty of football games come down to the final drive with 2:00 minutes on the clock.
Every second counts. Every tick of that clock counts.
The last few minutes are so important, and it’s so hard to keep working and stay focused. You’re tired, you’ve had enough. You’ve been working for weeks or months, and you want to put your head down and stop.
The questions become a blur, and you can’t keep reading – let alone decide between those two really good answer choices. The deciding is exhausting. You can’t watch the clock. You have to press through and keep working, but it’s like walking up hill in knee deep mud. That last 20 minutes of my PANRE was excruciating, but those points count just as much as any other points.
There are tools and techniques you can use to keep up your energy during that last few minutes. I cover them from time to time in the Scholars Program, but probably the biggest one is to know your key terms like the label of your favorite beer. Know them so well that you don’t have to think when you see them. Know them like you know 3 x 3 = 9. Zero effort. You just know it.
Having key terms in your quiver makes it easier to maintain your energy as you make your way through the exam. I doubt I would have passed without them.
Make exam day easier. Get The Final Step and know your key terms.

P.S. This came in as I was writing this one.

Hey Brian,
Just wanted to say thanks again for the Final Step. It helped me with my PANCE, and here I am ready for the PANRE this year.
I do read some of your emails, and it’s been fun to get to know your family:) and be reminded of ‘how to study more efficiently.’
I have shared my book and know of others who have purchased it. It has been by my side off and on for almost 6 years!
Happy New Year!
Maggie

Hmmm. Me thinks Maggie is going to do just fine on her PANRE.
