I try to start each day with a gratitude list. A list of things I’m grateful for. It puts things immediately into perspective and wipes out a lot of the daily tensions.
If you only do this once a year, you’re doing yourself a disservice. It’s a practice that puts your brain into a much better state. Here’s a quick list:
• I’m thankful for my healthy children
• I’m thankful for the sun being out today
• I’m thankful for a wife who supports and loves me
• I’m thankful for the PAER community
• I’m thankful for working in surgery
• I’m thankful for the people I work with
• I’m thankful for hot water
• I’m thankful for heat for my house
• I’m thankful for the food my family eats
• I’m thankful for the teachers my children have had
• I’m thankful for the friends in our community here in Pennsylvania
• I’m thankful for seeing (and liking) my extended family today
• I’m thankful for the Thank You’s I get from the PAER community
The list could go on and on. Remember it isn’t about having the most or being the best. It’s about getting better every day. About being more than you were yesterday. About living the life you have in front of you. NOT wishing you were someone else.
This is a great technique to practice on exam days. While the tension is highest, take just a moment to be happy you have hot water. Feel the tension in your face and jaw dissipate as you think about how wonderful hot water on demand truly is.
Use gratitude to calm your nerves before the exam on test day. Rather than working yourself into a tizzy before a test, why not breathe through a little gratitude?
– I’m so thankful I get to be in PA school
– I’m so thankful I have a shower and heat
– I’m so thankful ….
Your scores are going to love it.
Speaking of scores and loving it, the deadline for the March issue of the PAES newsletter is tomorrow at midnight. This particular issue covers ways to improve your test scores without any more studying. Seems farfetched? Nope. I’m confident we can boost your scores with the few simple test-taking tactics I’m going to cover. You don’t have to be a master test taker, but getting just a little better can make a huge difference.
There are loads of ways to boost your scores. I’ve got a select few I’m going to deliver right to your mailbox.
You can get in on this if you like, but only until tomorrow at midnight. Here’s the link to join:

P.S. One more thing, this issue is #36. That’s three full years of issues! Holy smokes. Well, I’m about to start mixing it up a little. Starting with issue #36, I’m going to start recording an audio version!
I’m really excited. In 2021, I’m building out PAES bigger and better. The newsletter is going to be a key piece and remain, but there’s more to come. A lot more training for members. I’m not going to be advertising it here. I’m just going to be quietly building it. If you’re on the inside, you’ll start seeing it soon. Very soon, starting with the audio version of the Newsletter. But, with all of that said, once you unsubscribe, you will lose access to ALL of the digital material. You get to keep your newsletters of course, but access to the rest of it will vanish. Well, that’s enough or now…
