This week I joined the ranks of proud Peloton owners. Well, my bike isn’t here yet. That’ll be in about 10 weeks, but I did start in on the app.
I absolutely love the short yoga and stretching classes. I can do two or three of those a day and I feel amazing. Getting a bit older now and working in the operating room or typing away like I’m doing now takes its toll.
In the OR this morning, I pulled an idea from the Yoga classes about body position. I teach body mechanics to our surgery students because poor mechanics leave your arms shaky and your back achy.
Fourteen years in I found a new idea. No sense in me explaining it here. I’m not sure even how I’d use words to describe it, but the larger point is that good ideas can be pulled from many sources.
Keep your eyes peeled and you’ll find that a good practice in one area of your life might be transferable to another area.
Take the April issue of the Physician Assistant Exam Scholars Newsletter for example. The theme of this particular newsletter is an idea I came across while reading a book on how to build a better business.
I dare say I’m the first to take this brilliant approach and use it for studying medicine. Maybe I’m not, but I’ve never heard it before. This idea is one of the more powerful ideas in the business world. It has helped to build and transform empires, and now I’m going to show you how to apply it to your studying so that you can get done sooner and get better grades.
Everyone wants to know how to stay out of the weeds – well, I’m going to show you. In fact, I’m going to hand you a weed whacker.
It won’t work for everyone, certainly not. If you’re super type A, you may really struggle to implement this one. But who am I to judge? You’re welcome to give it a shot.
