Growing is hard. Changing who you are is hard. But you’ve done it.
To get here, you had to grow beyond the person you used to be.You aren’t the same, and you’ve continued to improve. Do you know the most difficult part of growing? It’s seeing the new you. It’s seeing that you can be more.
Think of all the lottery winners who wind up broke.
What’s the percentage of football players who are broke two years after leaving the NFL? It’s something insane like 70%
One reason is that people don’t “see” themselves as someone with money. It’s similar with anyone trying to BE something different. You have to believe that you are that person already even if you slip up from time to time.
What I mean is, who do you have to be to achieve what you want?If you want to be a good student, you have to be a good student. If you’re going to be skinny, you have to be a skinny person first. Not a fat person on a diet. Not a bad test taker trying to get better.
I noticed I’d started having a beer with dinner more frequently or I’d have a diet Pepsi. Two things I don’t want to be ingesting just because I’m in a silly habit. How did I change this?I became someone who drinks water when he eats. Now I can have a beer or a diet Pepsi whenever I like. The problem wasn’t the item, it was the habit. So I’m putting an end to it.
If I find myself reaching into the garage refrigerator before dinner, I quietly remind myself that I’m the kind of person who drinks water with meals. And just like that, the fridge is closed, and I’m ENJOYING my water with dinner.Tonight is taco night, so it is a little harder, but that’s ok.It will get easier over time.
You can use the same technique with just about anything you do.
I’m the kind of person who goes for a walk every day.
I’m the kind of person who studies from The Final Step every day.
I’m the kind of person who puts the toothpaste away when I’m finished.
If you’re the kind of person who is looking to memorize a bunch of important information AND looking to get a discount on a great resource, then you are in luck.

A while back, I started to record the great ideas I was getting while going on long runs. As you are well aware, exercise (especially long endurance exercise) has a way of getting the creative juices flowing. Well I started recording the best of these ideas just for you. My favorite one in TRT Vol 2 is theory of the Elephant and The Rider. I’ve never talked about it anywhere else and it’s gonna change the way you get your work done.
