Don’t tell me it isn’t a competition. You just think it isn’t until you get to the job interview and realize you’re up against everyone else.By then, you don’t know why you stand out.You don’t know why someone should hire you.You don’t know what makes you better than every other candidate. And if you don’t know why you’re better than everyone else, no one else will think so either.
Do I believe PA School is a team sport?Absolutely, but that doesn’t preclude you from being the All-Star on that team.It doesn’t stop you from being the best and contributing the most.
Is basketball a team sport?Of course.Could Michael Jordan have won six champion ships without his teammates.? No, he could not.Was he the best player of all time?Yes, he was.
Now that we got through that, let’s talk about how you become the best. One way you do it is by creating distance.Distance between you and everyone else. How do you do that?By working when they don’t want to.By learning to be better when all they want to learn is enough to pass the next test.
If you want to see what creating distance looks like, I posted a picture of it on my brand new Instagram account (yes I’m dipping my toe into 2022).My son doesn’t want to be good, he wants to be the star.He wants to be the best.He wants the ball with 3 seconds left.
Last week he and I created distance between him and every other player in his league.
Take a look here.
