Last week was a bit of kick in the … gut for me.
I work with over sixty egomaniacal surgeons at work, but that’s child’s play compared with coaching youth sports. I’ve had a few sleepless nights this week and many a long meeting.
Not to worry, I’m a bit bruised and bloodied, but I’m actually feeling a bit stronger than when the week began. You see, “calm seas don’t make good sailors.” Things are going to go sideways from time to time. Silly to expect the good times to roll on forever. It just isn’t the way life or the world works.
There are ups and downs. Anyway, to the point. There’s a great little book called Peaks and Valleys by Spencer Johnson. In that little book, the author talks about not avoiding the valleys, but minimizing your time in them. Rather than believing you’ll be on a peak forever, trying to stay up there a little longer each time.
Strange. The October issue of The Physician Assistant Exam Scholars newsletter covers strategies after you fail at something. It’s geared towards the PANCE, an EOR, an entire semester, or a little quiz. But this week I’ve used every technique in that issue to get back up on my feet, and like I said earlier, I’m feeling BETTER despite the frayed nerves and sleepless nights.
This very morning, I used one of the techniques in the October issue to reset my mind and move back into a space I can win from. I learned it from the Sith Lord Darth Bane. I know, I know… an unlikely source, but I use what works no matter the source.
October approaches quickly and, with it, the last chance to get this valuable issue. I don’t often make back-issues available.
