When my wife graduated college, she and a friend got an apartment on the first floor in a small NYC apartment building. Two young college grads on the first floor with a window above each of their beds.
She complained to me one day that she had a lot of trouble sleeping at night. She’d toss and turn and never really feel good in the morning. Sometime later I realized she would watch the 11 o’clock news right before going to bed. You know all the stuff about robberies, murders, and rapes, etc. and then try and sleep.
I think you’d find the diagnosis in Doc Mcstuffin’s Big Book of Booboos.
No-guard-at-the-gate-itis.
Jim Rohn, businessman and speaker extraordinaire, (he was the guy who got Tony Robins started) used to say that you must be on guard at all times against bad things getting into your brain. He’d joke about how if you read the paper about wars, famine, and murder in the morning you’d be destined to have a bad day.
New evidence suggests that he was 100% correct in his expert assumptions. Harvard Business Review, along with the Huffington Post, did a study where they set up two groups. Group A watched the normal terrible news for 3 minutes in the morning. Group B watched positive stories on the news. Not cute puppies, but stories about hard work and success etc. Did you catch that? It was three minutes.
Six to eight hours later they were asked how they felt about their day. Members of Group A were 27% more likely to report their day as unhappy.
There’s a follow up study about productivity that I’m not going to go into here, but let’s just say there’s an impact.
3 minutes changed the whole day for A LOT of people.
Be very careful what goes into your mind. I’m not saying ignore the world, but you’ll be happier if you don’t read every gory detail about things you can’t have any effect on or that don’t have any effect on you.
Not to mention, you’ve got studying to do. Put that newspaper (the what?) down and pick up your copy of The Final Step.

P.S. If you’re willing to run a group order for your classmates, I can offer a significant discount on The Final Step. Shipping is a huge part of the cost, and group orders are much cheaper to ship. You don’t need to set up the whole group – you just need to be willing to let people know about the discount.
If you’re interested, hit reply and I’ll send you the details.
