Ok, so I’ve been a bit of Debbie Downer lately, I get it.
In a lot of ways, I’m very optimistic. I think there’s good information about the medications coming out. I think a lot of people are doing their best as far as social distancing.
Like I said, I think the best people in the world are working on this thing and I do have a borderline-crazy awe of what humans are capable of.
We flew to the moon BEFORE we had pocket calculators, for goodness sake.
My point has not been to bring fear, but to make sure you’re thinking and not just blindly following.
“Our school said we were closing for two weeks. Wait… You’re saying that might not be true?”
YES! Think a little.
Little League said we’re closed until May 11th so that means we’ll be playing on May 12th right?
Nope. It means they picked a number out of thin air and put it out there.
Pearson Vue has on their website:
Candidates can reschedule their exams for appointments starting April 16 and beyond if conditions allow.
That means they’ll be open on April 16th, right?
Maybe, but I doubt it.
If there is a run on masks like there was on toilet paper, we’re in trouble.
It’s worth considering.
Just like year after year when people tell me: “Hey Brian, did you hear they changed the test? They don’t use key terms anymore.”
When I took my PANCE in 2007, I was told they don’t use key terms anymore. I’ve been told the “new PANCE” for 2020 doesn’t use key terms anymore. I’ve heard that now for thirteen years.
A little critical thinking will tell you that that’s impossible.
If you can’t describe how a disease is different from every other disease, how would you be able to tell them apart to answer a question? Simple, you can’t.
Should you just memorize “strawberry tongue = Scarlett Fever” ?
OK, so they’ll never say a kid comes in with a strawberry tongue, but they will say a kid comes in with a red bumpy tongue. The associations are there to help you remember. That’s why people came up with them in the first place.
Would you call it a “buzz-word” that slipped capitol femoral epiphysis occurs most of the time in overweight boys around 12 years old?
They’ll never give you a 45-year-old female with that one, I can assure you.
You can call them “buzz-words.” I like to call them “important stuff you need to know in order to get the questions right,” but I’m terrible at branding.
“Buzz-word” sounds a lot better.
Anyway, if you’d like to know The Important Stuff You Need to Know in Order to Get the Questions Right, the best way to do that is by using The Final Step. The nice people who print it are still hard at work. They assure me the books will go out until they tell me otherwise.
