The Final step is a book I wrote back in 2013 to help me pass my first PANRE. I created hundreds of short questions to help me move through the material as fast as I could. The unprompted recall helped forced me to cull through my brain and pull out the correct words thereby solidifying the knowledge.
I know the test is multiple choice, but that makes it way to easy. Unprompted recall is a much better way to study if you’re looking for retention.
I was overwhelmed by the community asking me to share these questions and so I did, thus The Final Step was born. It was called that because at the time I thought it would be best used as the final step before the PANCE.As one last review. Now I’m finding people are using it for EOREs and all of their medicine exams. More to the point is that it isn’t a content book. It’s not a review guide. It’s a question book.
I’m working on a review guide. I just got the ob/gyn, cardio, and derm sections back from my designer, and I’m really psyched about it. You’ll hear more in early 2022.
Anyway, if you’re wondering what’s inside of TFS, it’s now over 2,000 questions. It’s broken up by topic area in part A and then in part B all of the questions are mixed together in a completely random order. It’s great.
And here are five example questions for you to see. I include the answers in the book, but no explanations. Explanations slow things down. This book is about speed and retention.
1) An epigastric olive-shaped mass should make you think of what diagnosis?
2) What is pagophagia?
3) How do you treat amebiasis?
4) Syphilis is caused by what organism?
5) Describe a Morton’s neuroma.
Could you answer these?
