PA programs teach you to be a great PA, and that’s exactly what they should be doing. Do you know what they don’t do? They 100% do NOT teach you to be an exceptional PA student. They expect you to be a fantastic student on your own.
A head football coach doesn’t go over throwing mechanics with his quarterback during game prep. He’s focused on the big picture. He’s mapping out strategies and educating his team on those strategies. He EXPECTS that the quarterback can throw the ball. The head coach can’t work on player development at this stage. The head coach simply doesn’t have the time to work on skills…
AND NEITHER DO YOUR PROFESSORS. To be in the game and be the best you can be, YOU have to be working on your development as a student. It isn’t anyone else’s responsibility. No one is coming to save you. There is no Calvary. There is no parent or superhero coming. It’s on you to be the best student and get the most out of PA school.
What do you think the natural progression is from being a spectacular PA Student? Do you think that path leads to being a crummy PA or a spectacular PA?
Obvious right? But maybe not obvious enough.
I can’t do it for you, but I can help.
The January issue of the Physician Assistant Exam Scholars newsletter is a perfect place to get started. Let me show you how to go from being a decent student to a spectacular student.
The Physician Assistant Exam Scholars newsletter is a physical newsletter that is printed and shipped to your door. I write a new issue every month with practical ideas and techniques that you can put to use to become a spectacular PA student and PA. Very early on the 1st, I take all of the members’ addresses and send them to my printer along with a copy of the newsletter. Then they take a day or two to print the newsletter and ship it out. So, the point is you need to be in before the ball drops.
