- A CT/ MRI would be of very little value here
- The most likely diagnosis is age related macular degeneration. A pt with ARMD will see wavy lines on an Amsler grid
- A measurement of IOP is helpful if you suspect glaucoma, but here the vision loss is central and for glaucoma you expect it to be peripheral.
- Fluorescein stain is used to look for damage to the cornea. The patient does not present with signs of corneal damage.
2. The answer is A
- Warm compresses are the best place to start when treating a hordeolum
- Topical bacitracin would be next if the warm compresses are unsuccesful
- Oral medication is not indicated
- I&D may be necessary if there is not a good response to either warm compresses or topical antibiotics.
3. The answer is B hypertropia
4. The answer is C. The only option that has any effect on cataract development is the wearing of sunglasses.
5. The answer is B – diabetic retinopathy
