Philosophize your way to the top

Philosophies are ways of operating, ways of doing things, ways of seeing things. We operate using one philosophy or another.

There’s the philosophy that telling the truth is beneficial and there’s the philosophy that lying is beneficial. You can can make both arguments and you’d be right at least some of the time. Two different philosophies.

Like we talked about yesterday there’s a philosophy that says “Work harder. Put in more time.”Sort of the Puritan work ethic philosophy. There’s a new competing … updated version of this philosophy I share inside of Maximize Your Time and Efficiency and it is something. I didn’t come up with it myself. No, no, no.People much smarter than me did that. But I do know how to take a good thing and run with it.

But that’s not what I wanted to talk about today. What I wanted to talk about today is the idea of philosophies because I think this goes un-thought too much.

You have chosen certain philosophies to live by. You may not know it, but you did.Probably similar philosophies as your parents since that’s who you learn from.

Let me see if I can explain this a different way. My philosophy on Little League baseball is to “get the out.” I don’t believe in even bothering with the lead runner. I believe the out is the single most important thing. Little League baseball games are rarely lost by one run. They are lost by big innings and you can prevent a big inning IF you get an out, any out.

Another philosophy might say runs are the most important thing. We need to stop the lead runner and prevent the other team from scoring at all costs. We bring in the infield, even in the first inning if there is a runner on third.

You can make an argument for both. Two different philosophies.

Here are a few more competing philosophies

– Studying right before an exam vs. Resting

– Staying up all night to study vs. Studying in smaller increments over time

– We need to get as many questions right on the PANCE as possible vs. we need to pass the PANCE

– We need to learn as much as possible vs. we need to pass the PANCE and be ready to practice medicine

Differing philosophies. I hope you’re starting to get the picture. Different cultures have very different philosophies on living, dying, and everything in between.

I’m not saying anyone is doing it right or doing it wrong. What I am saying is this: be aware you have chosen philosophies. You don’t know that you chose them, but you did. One good way to see new philosophies is to read or listen to different ideas. You don’t have to adopt them all, but being exposed to them helps you to see what you have chosen.

Fortunately for you, I have just the thing – Maximize Your Time and Efficiency.

MYTE is a course I put together to present some of these ideas and philosophies to you. I was never the smartest kid in my class, but I always came out on top. I want to show you how I did it, and I want you to see if you can use some of the philosophies I use in order to get there too.
