Only a fax machine

I’ve recently discovered someone that is blowing my mind on this subject. His name is Dan Kennedy. I recently saw a recording of him speaking about time management, and I had to dig deeper.

His book “NO B.S. Time Management” is a must read. The guy is a machine. He cranks out new books, new articles, new WORK consistently on time and constantly.

Here’s how:

He doesn’t own a cell phone. He does not have an internet connection at his house. He does not accept email or phone calls. Any communication with him must be faxed to his secretary who piles up the faxes and FedEx’s them to his home once a week. He then FedEx’s all the returns to her once a week.

If you would like to speak with him, he will talk with you on the phone, but only at a prearranged time and for a predetermined amount of time. Let’s set up a 20-minute call on Tuesday from 3:00-3:20.At 3:20, he hangs up the phone!

One of my favorite quotes is from Michelangelo Buonarroti when talking about his talent:

“If you knew how much work went into it, you wouldn’t call it genius. ”

Your genius doesn’t come from your genes. It comes from your habits.

Kennedy talks about how lazy he is and how, if he let himself go without discipline, he wouldn’t get a minute’s work done in a week. He has set himself up for success by creating habits and guarding his time like it’s the goose that lays the golden eggs because IT IS!

I’ll leave you for today with a quote from Mr. Kennedy about protecting your time.

“You don’t have to be an a**hole, but it’s ok to be thought of as one.”

If you complain about not having enough time to get everything in, maybe stop complaining and start taking a hard look at how you spend your day and the habits you’ve created.

Another great way to protect your most valuable asset is to use the right resources when you’re studying. You can’t read through Current the week before your exam, but you can cover every topic in the blueprint while you drive.
